Epic: The Battle For Moonhaven
Epic: The Battle For Moonhaven is a mobile game for the movie of the same name.
Year :
2025
Industry :
Video Games
Client :
Gameloft Entertainment
Project Duration :
9 months

Problem :
Epic: The Battle for Moonhaven needed to translate Blue Sky Studios’ richly detailed, cinematic world into a playable mobile format. The problem was maintaining the film’s lush natural environments, bioluminescent details, and miniature-world scale within the tight visual, memory, and performance constraints of a mobile game. The core challenge was capturing the feeling of being small in a vast, living forest — without overwhelming the player visually or technically.

Solution :
As part of the art and design team, I contributed to environment painting, prop design, and visual atmosphere, helping to distill the film’s complex visual language into a clear, readable, and optimized game style. I worked to balance realistic textures with stylized color harmonies, ensuring each scene evoked the sense of magic and discovery that defined the movie. Through iterative lighting passes and compositional adjustments, we preserved the film’s sense of scale and wonder while keeping gameplay intuitive and fluid.

Challenge :
The biggest challenge was reconciling cinematic realism with mobile clarity — maintaining the film’s visual richness while ensuring assets remained performant and legible on small screens. This required close collaboration between design, tech, and art teams to achieve the right mix of density, readability, and atmosphere.
Summary :
Our work on Epic: The Battle for Moonhaven successfully brought a feature film’s world to life in interactive form, capturing its sense of scale and beauty in a way that worked for mobile audiences. The project showcased how thoughtful adaptation, color direction, and environmental storytelling can preserve cinematic magic even within the most limited platforms.
